7. Committees

Committees are essential working groups of the Board that allow for focused attention on specific areas of governance, strategy, and programmatic oversight. They help ensure the Board fulfills its responsibilities effectively and efficiently by dividing tasks and deepening Board member engagement.

Each committee is composed of Board members (and in some cases, non-Board volunteers or advisors) who bring relevant expertise, interest, and commitment to the committee’s focus area. Committees may meet independently of full Board meetings and report their work, findings, and recommendations during regular Board sessions.

Standing and Ad Hoc Committees

The Scott G. Green Foundation currently organizes its governance and operational support through the following standing committees:

Governance and Nominations Committee

  • Reviews and updates Board governance practices, including bylaws, policies, and evaluation tools.

  • Identifies, vets, and recommends new Board candidates aligned with the Foundation’s diversity and leadership needs.

  • Manages Board orientation, development, and succession planning.

  • Ensures ongoing Board health and performance through assessments and feedback.

Ad Hoc Committees

In addition to these standing committees, the Board may establish ad hoc committees or task forces for short-term, project-specific purposes—such as planning a major fundraising gala, launching a capital campaign, or conducting an executive search. These committees disband once their work is complete.

Board members are encouraged to actively participate in at least one committee that aligns with their skills and passions. Through this service, members not only deepen their involvement but help advance the mission of the Foundation in practical, measurable ways.
