1. Introduction

The Scott G. Green Foundation is a nonprofit historic preservation society dedicated to safeguarding and celebrating the stories, structures, and individuals that define Black history and culture in Arkansas. We believe that preserving historic places and honoring the legacies of Black Arkansans is essential to building a more inclusive and truthful understanding of our collective past.

Our work is rooted in a deep respect for cultural heritage and community memory. Through innovative programs, community partnerships, media campaigns, and youth education, we aim to ensure that the contributions of Black Arkansans are not only remembered—but remain visible and valued in the public landscape.

The Foundation’s approach blends restoration and education with storytelling and civic engagement. We support the physical preservation of sites, while also elevating the narratives that give these spaces meaning. This includes honoring ancestors, empowering youth through trades training, documenting oral histories, and producing compelling media that connects the past with the present.

This guide provides an overview of how the Board of Directors contributes to the Foundation’s success and impact. It outlines the roles, responsibilities, and governance practices that ensure our mission is carried out with integrity, purpose, and accountability.
